East Coast Tour in October 2011
Tentative Schedule
The Basiani Ensemble, which has toured extensively in Eastern and Western Europe, will make a debut tour to the United States. Be involved! Bring the Basiani Ensemble to your community.
History
The Basiani Ensemble is an acknowledged heavyweight in the burgeoning folklore revival community of vocal/dance ensembles interested in resurrecting traditional repertoire from the pre-Soviet era. Director Giorgi Donadze has a degree in conducting and folklore from the Tbilisi State Conservatory, and selects the ensemble repertoire from archival recordings and manuscripts that have recently become available for public study.
The Basiani Ensemble carries a specific and important function within the Georgian Orthodox Church, as they are the designated chant ensemble for the Georgian Patriarchate, and as such, accompany His Holiness, Patriach Ilia II to services throughout Georgia and abroad.
It is a distinct pleasure to present this renowned ensemble to audiences in the United States, where the strength, charm, and playful sincerity of these young singers will no doubt astound and delight audiences of all varieties.
If you are interested in hosting a concert, please contact tour organizer, John A Graham of georgianchant.org for more information.
